Crescent City Cyclists is the longest continuously running bicycle touring club in the greater New Orleans area. We host leader-led rides nearly every weekend, on both the north and south shores of Lake Pontchartrain. We are not a competitive cycling organization. Our emphasis is on cycling for health, recreation and camaraderie.

Here are a few important points about our club:

  • Membership is open to anyone who is interested in cycling as a recreation/hobby.
  • Guests are welcome to join us on one club ride. After that, we’ll ask you to become a member.
  • Safety is of vital importance. Helmets are required on all club rides.
  • You should have a road-worthy bike and know how to change a flat or perform minor repairs which may occur on the road. You should also carry adequate water and snacks for the length of the ride.

City rides are at a more causal pace and shorter distance than the country rides. On city rides, although the pace will vary depending on the route and the ride leader, the whole group stays together throughout the ride and these rides frequently include one or more stops for refreshment and socializing at a cafe or coffee shop.

On country rides, while the whole group starts out together, typically we will separate into multiple smaller groups or individuals, each riding at their own preferred pace. There are usually multiple route options and distances to choose from and detailed maps are always provided. Often riders will regroup and socialize at a convenience store rest stop along the route. The ride leader makes sure that everyone signs in on the ride log sheet at the beginning of the ride, and signs out at the end. The ride leader will not leave after the ride until all riders are accounted for, and will backtrack the route to look for anyone who does not return within a reasonable time and offer assistance if necessary.

On all CCC rides you are expected to be self-sufficient in terms of carrying adequate supplies of food and water depending on the ride length and weather conditions, as well as spare inner tubes and basic tools needed to make roadside repairs. This is especially important on country rides where you may be riding alone or with only one or two other riders for at least a portion of the route.
