For the last few years our annual century ride has been held on a Saturday, because it was headquartered at a church. Due to heavy vehicular traffic on the roads during the century last year, we decided to move the century back to Sunday since there are usually far fewer cars and trucks on the roads on Sundays. This change required moving our headquarters to a new location.
This years century will be headquartered at the Rocking Horse Show Barn, 80155 Old Military Road (LA 1082) north of Covington, LA. This facility will provide us with an indoor registration area, dining room for the after ride meal and restrooms. To get there, take LA 21 north for 4-1/4 miles from the US 190 Business/LA 21 junction in Covington to LA 1082, then take 1082 north for 5-1/4 miles (3/4 mile north of Pat O’Brien Road) on your left. Please Note: Both Apple Maps and Google Maps currently show the marker for this address a mile too far north. Corrections have been submitted to both companies, but they probably won’t update their online maps before the century. Below is a photo of the facility.
Registration begins at 6:30 am Century & Metric Rides start at 7:00 am Half & Quarter Century Rides start at 8:00 am. The event will include routes of 25, 50, 62 and 100 miles. And of course, all of the routes include rest stops with snacks, sports drink, water, and toilets. You will be provided with a route map and cue sheet, and direction arrows will be painted on the roads at all turn points. After your ride you will enjoy a catered meal with bottled water, beer and soft drinks available.
Most of the routes will be the same or very similar to last year. Only the quarter century route has changed significantly. You can preview the routes on our Ride With GPS event page, which includes cue sheets and route elevation profiles. You may also download PDF versions of the Route Map (includes all routes), Cue Sheets, and Time Estimates, which shows your estimated arrival time at each rest stop, based on various average cycling speeds.
While the century is designed to be an enjoyable experience, the event is held on public roads open to other vehicles. Riders should expect to encounter motorists and be prepared for road hazards. Participants should operate their bicycles in a safe and lawful manner and obey traffic laws throughout the ride. The CCC requires the use of ANSI or Snell approved helmets for all club rides including the century. Everyone is encouraged to ride with a partner; children under 12 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
The registration fee for the Crescent City Century is $40. The century fee includes SAG support, restroom facilities at the start and at each rest stop, maps, road surface markings, and lunch with beer and soda following the ride.
Riders who pre-register by September 16th will pay a discounted price of $30 for CCC Members or $35 for non-members. This discount is valid for pre-registration only. Pre-registrants will also receive an event souvenir. All registrants will pay $40 after September 10th. Non-members may join CCC and save $5 on their century fee by submitting a membership application and dues ($20/yr individual, $30/yr family) along with their century pre-registration. If you join now, your membership will expire on December 31, 2018.
Online registration is now closed but you can still download the registration form, fill it out and bring it with you on century day to save time at the onsite registration table..
This is a “rain or shine” event; not much short of a hurricane bearing down on us will force a postponement. If the unthinkable should happen be sure to check this website for century rescheduling information. If you have any questions, e-mail century@CrescentCityCyclists.org.
